The really bad, and really good, Friday

The day started with a message from Uber in my inbox. Someone had reported that I stole their purse on a “ride”. I make deliveries. I don’t even do passenger-carrying rides! And the “ride” was a no-contact delivery, so I never even saw this person face-to-face. How could I have stolen anything from them if I didn’t even meet them?

That was really annoying and irritating. I do not understand why people want to make the lives of others more difficult. What do they get out of it?

But no matter. It was a pretty interesting day at work. I worked on some performance and scaling issues on our Library sites. I have found some quite interesting “flame graphs” that show places we can optimise the code and make things work a lot better.

I also had to reset my installation of Podman fully, because the machine’s container image registry was corrupted beyond all hope of repair. That was an odd failure mode.

Just after I finished work, I felt inspiration strike again. I wrote down a few more story ideas. And I think this is the end for a while. The final story idea I had, which is Arc 80, feels like the ending of this series of stories. Not the end of stories with these characters. Not the end of the stories. Just, this “series” feels like it is now complete.

That’s really cool actually, because maybe now I can focus on writing out these stories! But also a little sad, because I really like coming up with new ideas too.

Who knows what the future holds. Well, I suppose I do – lots of writing this weekend!
