Frazzling, twitchy weekend days

I woke up way too late on Sunday, and kind of messed up some of the plans I had with friends. On the bright side, there were more good sports results: the Chicago Bears won decisively, which is technically the team best placed to call themselves my “home” team.

Only had a little time to spend with my sweetie before he had to go to bed (early since it’s a work night, technically). My sleep schedule is going to have to just work itself out at some point. It’s making everything not as good.

I went back in my home office and tore it all apart looking for that dumb CompactFlash card with Windows NT 3.51 on it. At this point, it will probably be easier to take a blank one and start over. I never found it. But along the way, my mum and all three cats came in to see what I was doing in there on a weekend. And it turned into a cute impromptu cat play session. Mr Gaz played with a few mice toys, Melody with her soft toys, and Willow with a cat wand. It was actually cute how a fruitless search for a storage device turned into quality bonding time. Special moments in life can be found almost anywhere, if you only look hard enough…

Then I accidentally overdid dinner and made my stomach very, very upset. After I recovered from that, I spent the night-into-morning working out financial issues because my bank was eaten by another bank and turned into a different bank. Annoying, frustrating, debilitating, inconvenient, choose any of those (or indeed, all of them).

And now, to quote The Weeknd’s House of Balloons, “Nights pass so much quicker than the days did / Same clothes, you ain’t ready for your day shift”. It’s almost time to start my shift at the Library and I’m still awake from Sunday and still dressed for Sunday. I’m 35 years old. I’m too old for this! When I was in my early 20s this sleep disorder was vaguely socially acceptable, but now it’s just an unmitigated disaster.

The shining light through all of this remains the friends and family that make my life worth living. My spotted heart beats for each one of them. I’m so thankful for each and every one of them.

I realized back when I was a child that sleep was important, and I almost never stayed up past 9 PM. And now, because of work, I am forced to sleep just 4 hours a day, and only at night. From about 3 AM to 7 AM.
