So much to handle for such a little Spots…

I have written a few times about a side-gig that could replace my Uber driving and help me earn more as well, which would solve most of my financial issues. This evening, after I finished my Berkeley Library work for the week, I had my final interview.

They didn’t even wait for the interview call to finish. I’m in! Monday evening I begin the next chapter of my life. The last Uber drive I’ll be doing, at least for a while, is officially in the past. And I don’t even really know how I feel about that. It’s really good for me to make more money and not live paycheque to paycheque praying there’s enough people in Northeast Oklahoma who are hungry to pay for my family’s medications.

But I’m going to miss it, too. One of my favourite activities to do is just drive to nowhere in particular. Uber took me all over the map. It’s such a perfect fit for someone with the type of wanderlust I have. And helping people so directly made my soul happy. The interactions that I had with the people I helped will be a treasure for me forever. So it’s a bit bittersweet that it’s over now.

I had a lovely evening with my boyfriend, too. He is truly one of the best things to happen to me in quite a long time. I have been told that the smile I wear after spending time with him is not unlike the smile I wear after spending quality snuggle time with my cat-daughter Melody. His special way of caring for me inspires me to try to better myself, and it’s my deepest hope that I be the same for him!

Which reminds me… earlier this week, I attended a very instructive session with a licensed counsellor. The ensuing conversation revealed to me that one of the reasons I don’t always handle emotions well is because I don’t feel safe expressing them. As I was sure of that lack of safety but unsure where it came from, I thought hard and finally did realise the source.

When I realised the source, I spent three hours of late Friday night into Saturday morning confronting someone who is very important to me about how they treated me in the (now distant) past. It was a lot for the both of us, but I’m hoping it helps us both to heal and move forward in an even healthier friendship in the future. And I’m hoping it helps me to solve some of the lingering insecurities that I’ve had because of that past treatment.

And that was all after a full day of Library work, reviewing code, working on JavaScript tooling, and going through accessibility issue tickets. All in all, quite a day for your friendly neighbourhood Spots. But I’m pretty sure it was satisfying.
