Thursday evening was the first day in almost a full week that I managed to get a fare on Uber, and I ended up getting 8 before the night was over. That makes me feel better!
I’ve been participating in a focus group on library accessibility that is wrapping up soon, and it has been a wonderful experience. I’ve enjoyed it greatly.
Separately, we have gotten clearance at Berkeley to work on accessibility improvements for software that we use, and contribute those improvements to the open source repository itself. That will be a great project to undertake because it will help all of us. I’m looking forward to it.
Being the end of the month, I always end up a little reflective. This month was, on the whole, not very good by any metric. Library work suffered under the pressure of the security remediations and the memory leak issue that is difficult to resolve. Uber suffered greatly, likely because no one else has any money either (so they can’t buy “unnecessary” things, like restaurant food). I wasn’t able to do nearly as much writing as usual, and my art computer died.
And of course, my friends and family have been facing their own issues. My grandmother’s health continues to decline, and potentially in new ways.
But it wasn’t all bad. I have already set up the new art computer (an iMac) on my desk where the Power Mac G5 was. Uber seems to be picking up a little bit. The security fixes at the Library are finished and the memory leak can’t be too much longer.
So, I have high hopes for August to be a much better month than July. Here’s hoping.
