Or perhaps we can go in a different direction!

About 15 minutes after I drafted the last article on my phone, my Mac went insane. Like, really insane. Any keyboard input just gave the prohibited “boop” noise, and trying to open any app I had in the Dock gave me a weird error about the application “not being open anymore”:

A screenshot of the above-mentioned error message.

Since I had to reboot anyway, I decided to finally give up and update the Mac from Sequoia to Tahoe. This is my “Daily Driver” Mac. The Mac I use to write my novels. The Mac I use to watch things with friends. It’s a really big deal. I’ve had Tahoe on my work laptop, and my personal laptop, for quite some time. And I’m not too happy with what they’ve done to the Music app in Tahoe, but I really like some of the improvements in Safari and I know the next OS is coming out soon which means Sequoia won’t have security updates any more.

The update took almost two hours! I was able to take a shower, tidy the flat, cook dinner, and it still wasn’t done. Madness! But, I was really impressed that when it was done, all the apps and windows I had open came back the way I had them.

And it seems to use a lot less memory. With the same apps open, and the same documents open in them, I was pushing 55-58 GB RAM used. Now I’m only at 45 GB RAM used! That does sound insane, I know, but I have a 8 GB Windows VM and a 4 GB Linux VM so that is 12 of it. Then you have RubyMine, PyCharm, Illustrator, Safari with 157 tabs open…

Managed to sneak in an inaugural watch party on Tahoe as well, in-between chores. Saw All Dogs Go to Heaven 2. Might be worth a full review article. Really, really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, right after that, I overdid a bit with the chores – which made my diabetes go a bit sideways. So I wasn’t able to do much writing or sketching.

I was able to help one of my best friends with their code project though, which was nice to do. It’s been a while since I’ve done any tech stuff and I think I still enjoy it somewhat. It’s not the same it was, but it’s still fun to do sometimes.

Sunday/Monday is going to be another “sleep until evening then do an all-nighter” since my sleep schedule continues to be a wreck. So there might be two articles on Monday. That’s my hope, anyway. I want to publish that sketch I did Thursday night…
