Okay, so maybe this isn’t quite the post people are expecting with a title like that. Everyone at work already knows I’m trans – my prior post from Trans Visibility Day was widely circulated (and appreciated) in the greater Berkeley Library community. And that made me feel really good, and accepted. It was truly lovely and I can’t say enough about the respect and admiration I have for all of my peers at the Library.
No, this post is about being furry. My old PyPI account is tied to an email account I don’t have access to any more, and the 2FA was my IBM FIDO key. Whoops! That account isn’t going to do me much good now.
I made a new one that aligns with the identity I use on RubyGems. And then I had to have my manager add my new PyPI account as a manager of the Library org so that I could create new releases of our software.
I didn’t know what to expect going into that meeting, really, but it wasn’t a big thing. And that made me feel happy again. I can just be myself at work, there’s no reason to hide anything. I’ve worked a lot of places, and have been given so many reasons to hide many parts of who I am. It is a treasure to find a place I can work where that isn’t the case any more.
Since you were planning to move to the UK later and become a vet there, you will also need to look for the same kind of good team there.
Yeah. I think it will be easier to find an accepting team in veterinary medicine, but it will still be a search. But it’s worth it to follow my passion in life! =)
