I am very proud to announce that early this morning Pacific time, a merge request I authored and a merge request my colleague authored were both accepted and merged into ArchivesSpace upstream! That means we have officially landed these accessibility improvements for all institutions using this software (or at least, we will have once it is released). Our whole team is thrilled! It really makes me over the moon to know we are helping not just the Berkeley Library, but many cultural institutions all over the world.
I spent the morning with my sweetie, and we are still so good. It’s getting close to a very important milestone, too. More on that later!
Meanwhile, one of my colleagues at the Library brought up the WebMCP specification which apparently was discussed at AI4LAM’s Fantastic Futures 2026 conference. I believe I most agree with WebKit’s position on it, though I do echo Mozilla’s curiosity on the declarative version. This makes more sense to me: let’s just use markup, the way we do with ARIA. The fact that Google considers markup “deprecated” and “for legacy sites that can’t be updated only” really speaks to what they think about HTML and open standards in general…
So many things left to do; for now I’ll leave it here.
