This was one of those days where I wake up before the sunrise. It started with using my language-lawyer mode to read through some really thick, boring W3C standards. Typically, I’d avoid calling them “boring” – standards have a very important place in technology. They should be unambiguous and descriptive, clear and useful. Standards matter a lot in keeping technology open and moving forward. The thing is, the W3C standards really do feel like they have been argued about until they became boring dull nothingness full of twisty passages to make sure that everyone gets what they want and nothing actually gets resolved. When I read POSIX, or even ISO C++, I still feel a human touch behind it. They’re clear and unambiguous without being watered down and convoluted.
But after that was all sorted and our accessibility project could move forward at the Library, I went out to the markets with my mum and we found some cute clothes in the discount section! It’s a struggle to convince myself to spend money on things for me still, but it also feels really good to have nice things to wear that show who I am inside. Had a lot of coupons for the food, too, which helps a lot.
Then it was time for my Library shift to start in earnest. Or, more properly, it was time for everyone else to be awake and me to appear normal despite being very abnormal. We had some great productive conversations, figured out things as a team, and it was in general a very positive day at work. We also had a union meeting which was lovely as well.
And it’s not even over yet: I have a late Pacific time zone lunch call with a good friend in a bit, and a special birthday celebration for Mr Gaz. He turns 12 today!
