Live stream is: Delayed

There will not be a live stream today, unfortunately, because my Power Mac G5 has suffered some sort of failure during my final testing. I attempted to power on the system to try out some different ways of capturing the video using OBS on my laptop, and it did not boot. It sat at the Apple logo with the spinning throbber for 15 minutes before simply turning itself off. I tried again in verbose mode, where it was stuck for those same 15 minutes until it turned off:

An Apple Cinema Display (June 2004) connected to a Power Mac G5 (June 2004). The display is showing a Verbose Boot (Cmd+V) of Mac OS X Leopard, which is getting stuck at “jnl: unknown dev: journal replay done“.

I attempted to boot the system from the Mac OS X Install DVD, and was initially successful. However, when I opened Disk Utility from the menu, the DVD drive spun up (assumedly to load the Disk Utility app bundle), and then the entire machine powered off – including the Cinema Display.

Catastrophic failure? Buggy Leopard? I’ve just cleaned the system of dust recently, so I’m pretty sure it isn’t fan or thermal related. All I know is that I had everything set up to stream a Power Mac G5, and now I have no Power Mac G5 to stream with. Spots is sad.

Actually, I have two other G5s in my closet, but neither one has a hard disk, and this G5’s disk seems to be rather sick. I’d rather not try to faff around with power supply and logic board swaps when I’m not even sure what the failure is on this one. I can probably just set up one of the other G5s next weekend with a new disk for the art stream, but disappointingly, it won’t be in time for #MARCHintosh. Sigh.
