Two girls walk into an AutoZone…

I was going to have dinner with my Mum before starting Uber yesterday evening. We sat in the car, and as I turned the engine over and turned on the headlamps, I beheld the strangest sight. The right side of the concrete wall I park at was lit, but the left side of the wall was still dark…

Alright, normally “replacing a headlamp bulb” would be a silly thing to blog about. But this is a new car. This is not the 1988 Crown Victoria I learned to drive with, where I could actually look under the hood and tell you what all of the parts are.

Thankfully, since it was an Uber night, I had my iPad with me. I take it with me in case there’s a long pause between fares, so I can do a little writing or sketching. And on this night, I used it to look up how to access the left headlamp since it wasn’t obvious. We went to AutoZone instead of dinner, bought the replacement bulb set (you’re meant to change both at the same time, and I had just enough from Uber earnings to swing it), and then began the process.

My mum held the intake hose while I used the AutoZone “Free Loaner Tool” 8mm socket wrench to remove the engine air box. (And this is how you know modern cars are simply not designed to be DIY’d. This is a headlamp replacement.) We managed to replace the bulb and were so proud of ourselves when we clicked the headlamps on and it illuminated!

And I had just enough time to wash all the car grease and dirt off my paws and arms in a refuelling station bathroom, then it was time to start Uber. Ah well. An actual dinner isn’t something Spots is meant to have, I guess.
