After all the meetings were over yesterday, I finally had a moment to myself to decompress. I found a set of charcoal pencils while I was tidying the office, so I thought I’d try them out. I curled up on the floor of the spare room and a few minutes later…

She seems as surprised as I am that I have any ability to do things outside of a computer! Jokes aside, it was pretty satisfying to see that my digital skills might actually translate to the physical realm. I still want to get a lot of practice, but I feel like I’m really beginning to understand the basics of the style of animals I want to draw.
So, afterwards I sat down at my iPad Pro, and finally drew a rough sketch of myself, properly!

Now I can finally show who I am inside on the Internet – I’ve already set this as my avatar on Discord and WordPress, and I’ll probably be setting it on Codeberg and Telegram as well. I’m going to keep iterating on it and hope to have higher quality versions of my avatar here soon. Perhaps I can even try my paws at making my own reference sheet!
This weekend I’m looking forward to doing some more programming on my Spotcheck project, and more sketching. I’m going to try branching out, and draw a few characters from my graphic novel – and perhaps a few more familiar faces from 101!
