Music I Discovered – 2026-03

It’s been quite a diverse month! There’s a little something for every taste. I’ve been quite fortunate to have a lot of friends linking me to really great music. I’ve also found a few albums “gathering dust” that I’ve reintroduced into my rotation.

New (to me!)

wrong faces. – Brent Faiyaz

I heard this on Apple Music One and it immediately earned a spot in my library! It really brings the R&B style of the turn of the millennium. He has such a buttery smooth voice. The percussion, Spanish-influenced guitars, and distant strings really evoke a mood. This is a great cooldown song after a long day; just put on and space out.

The Kicker – Xana

My friend Horst linked me to another song off this album, and I listened to the whole album this month. To be honest, I could have written this song. I’ve felt virtually every feeling that poor Xana expresses in this tune, and it’s given me a lot of comfort to not feel alone. Equal parts hopeful and cynical, it really captures the feeling of not being over that whomst is over you. Warning: Explicit lyrics!

Time Stops – Violet Waves

My friend Kyla was heading up a mix at an event we were having, and Time Stops was one of the songs she played. I really enjoyed it! It has a bit of a feel of This Will Destroy You, with 00s indie mixed in. This wouldn’t be out of place playing somewhere on the high street in Seattle, and it’s certainly not out of place in my programming playlist!

Doja – Central Cee

Doja is one of Central Cee’s breakout hits, but I must’ve missed it when it first dropped in 2022. I found it while browsing his other discography after quite enjoying All Roads Lead Home. It’s quite short, but also quite fun. I love the sped up Let Me Blow Ya Mind sample, and the wordplay is cute. Warning: Explicit lyrics!

Dance No More – Harry Styles

I heard this once while playing Top 40 London – and it obviously went in my head, because I recognised it when Harry Styles performed it earlier this month on SNL. It’s super groovy; I love bobbing my head around while writing to this one. Great for a workout, too.

Edge of the Earth – The Beaches

A good friend from the Gentoo community linked me to this album mid-month and I instantly fell in love with it. This is one of my favourite tracks from it; the inner conflict from being unsure of yourself in a new relationship is very relatable and the imagery is very imaginative. The Beaches are everything I was missing from the indie pop-punk scene and I am so glad to have all three of their albums in my library now!

Reflex – Miraj

My bestie Elizafox linked me to this one somewhat accidentally. This song is such a banger. It’s a great song for the motorway, as if the album art is a suggestion on what to do with it. I could see this being a good one for taking out on the Forza circuit, as well! And it’s just in general fun to listen to while ruff-raffing around.

Old Favourites, Found Again

Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man after Midnight) – ABBA

This one came to me when I heard the sample in Madonna’s Hung Up. Such a wonderful song to dance to. They sure don’t make music like this any more, and I’m not sure why! Always fond of the classics.

Omen – The Prodigy

Take Me to the Hospital was on my mind for… reasons, which is another song on this album. The whole Invaders Must Die album is underrated and I can’t believe it was almost 10 years since the last time I played it. I’ve been enjoying writing a dream sequence scene to this song. Also, can’t you just see Dante listening to this?

Midnight Sky – Miley Cyrus

Alright, alright, before you start clicking away from my blog – yes, I am going to defend Miley Cyrus here. She’s had a rough go of it in the media and a lot of people have a really bad opinion of her, but I think she is actually a great artist. Plastic Hearts is a good album, and Midnight Sky is a good song. Thanks to a random passerby for playing it where I could hear it!

Losing You – Joe Lynn Turner

This one resurfaced early in the month. When my Mum heard the news of Jennifer Runyon’s passing, her mind went straight to Blue de Ville; this song features on its soundtrack, and is actually played at a concert in-universe by Joe Lynn Turner’s character. Great scene, great song, and a nice way to remember her great acting fondly.

And that’s my music discovery list for the month of March! Leave me a comment on which one was your favourite, and any suggestions you think I might enjoy in April!
